(And
Bulletin Boards)
Newsgroups
are topic specific public bulletin boards on the Internet where anybody
can post or answer a question. There's really only one newsgroup for
ferrets that's up and running on a regular basis and that's alt.pets.ferrets.
alt.pets.ferrets is an un-moderated group and has no committees or people
screening posts to make sure that they're actually ferret related. Anybody
can post and nobody's in charge.
There is another
newsgroup called rec.pets.ferrets. rec.pets.ferrets
is a moderated group, which means that posts are screened to make
sure they're on topic. It's pretty quiet there but a few people still post
from time to time. There's often a lag time of a few days between the time
you post your message and the time it actually shows up on the board -then
there's another lag of several days before any responses to your post show
up on the board.
You can visit and/or search through
archives of these newsgroups at Google Groups.
Private
Ferret Bulletin Boards
There
are also a few privately owned (and often moderated) ferret bulletin boards
on the web that have become quite popular. Several are listed below:
- AOL Ferret Boards
(AOL members only.)
- The Ferret Store Forums
- FOB
Ferrets (Yahoo Group)
- Planned
Ferrethood (Yahoo Group):
"Planned Ferrethood [The Pennsylvania
Ferret Rescue Association (PFRA) Westmoreland] eGroup provides a forum
for Planned Ferrethood shelter directors, volunteers and anyone else
interested in ferrets, to communicate about all matters shelter and ferret
related."
- PFRACentre
(Yahoo Group):
"This list is to keep members informed about
the activities of the PFRA of Centre County and it's affiliate Ferret
Club. Club events, shelter activities, any ferret-related questions
can be posted and discussed. This is a way to help all the Central PA
ferret owners connect for help with their fuzzies, fun activities, sharing
of stories, whatever!"
